Exercise Scientist

BACKGROUND

Jumpstarz Track and Field was established in 2016 and is operated by myself, Nicole Gusman.

I grew up in a small coastal town on the NSW mid north coast called Corindi Beach, just North of Coffs Harbour. I lived there for 16 years before moving  to the gold coast at the beginning of 2015 to begin my Bachelor of Exercise Science at Griffith University.

I started athletics at the age of 6 with my local athletics club, originally just for fun. I started practicing my high jump in the backyard with my little brother where we wedged a broomstick in-between a fence and a tree and would land on a mattress, that we dragged into the yard. My love for high jump continued to grow and in the under 11 age group i made it to state for the first time. Amazingly, i managed to win the state title for high jump with a jump of 1.40m which was the best jump in the country that year.

My dad thought it was best for me to get a coach and so he drove me from home to Grafton every Monday for 9 years, which was a 2 hour round trip.

With the help of my Coach, Michele Hurcum and my parents Steve and Michelle, i was able to achieve some great things in athletics as well as have the opportunity to start up this business!

  • 1st - Little athletics state : 11 years High Jump 1.40m (2006) 

  • 1st - CHS state : 12 years High Jump 1.54m (2007) 

  • 3rd - All schools state : 13 years high jump 1.55 (2008) 

  • 3rd - Little athletics state - 13 years high jump 1.57 (2008)

  • 3rd - School Nationals: 13 years high jump 1.60  (2008)

  • 4th - pacific school games: 13 years high jump 1.60 (2008)

  • 2nd - CHS state: 14 years girls high jump 1.63 (2009) 

  • 1st - All schools : 14 year girls high jump 1.65 (2009) 

  • 1st - CHS state : 18 years pentathlon (2010)

  • 3rd - CHS state: 15 years high jump 1.60 (2010) 

  • 3rd - little athletics state: 15 years high jump 1.65 (2010)

  • 2nd - CHS state: 16 years high jump 1.65 (2011)

  • 2nd - CHS state: 18 years pentathlon (2011)

  • 3rd - All Schools state: 16 years high jump 1.65 (2011) 

  • 4th - Oceania Games - 18 years high jump 1.60 (2012) 

  • 1st - Oceania Games - Open 4x400m relay 

  • 1st - CHS state: 17 year high jump 1.69 (2012) 

  • 2nd - CHS state: 18 years pentathlon (2012) 

  • 2nd - Australian Champs: 17 years high jump 1.70 (2012) 

  • 2nd - All schools state: 17 years high jump 1.71 (2012) 

  • 1st - Little athletics state: 17 years girls 1.68 (2012)

  • 4th - Australian All Schools: 18 years high jump 1.70 (2012)

  • 1st - CHS state - 18 years pentathlon (2013) 

  • 3rd - CHS state - 18 years 400m hurdles (2013)
